Register Now For the 2008 ACCESS Quality Education Conference!

We are almost one month away from the 2008 Quality Education Conference – Exploring New Horizons for Equal Educational Opportunity! Register now to participate in this distinct and wide-ranging event to be held in Washington D.C. on June 11 and June 12, 2008. This year’s conference promises to build on the successes of previous years and further advance the adequacy movement – in a new light.

The conference will take place at the Service Employees International Union (SEIU Building), in Dupont Circle. An agenda has been set. We will begin on Wednesday, June 11 at 9:00 a.m. and conclude on Thursday, June 12 at 1:00 p.m. Our sessions promise to be substantive, engaging, and diverse. Don’t miss your chance to participate!

Our Key-note speaker, Dr. John H. Jackson, President of the Schott Foundation for Public Education, is a dynamic and motivational orator committed to pursuing education as a right. Our luncheon address will be delivered by John M. Greaney, Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, who has participated in both of the major adequacy decisions in Massachusetts, voting with majority in McDuffy v. Sec'y of the Executive Office of Educ., and dissenting in Hancock v. Driscoll. Judge Greaney speaks forthrightly about adequacy issues and how courts should and do function.

In addition, the conference will continue customary features, such as Michael Rebell’s annual state of the movement overview, the roundup of the states, and the litigators’ workshops. This year Education Voters is also preparing a number of sessions on how to complement legal and lobbying work with strategies to elect legislators who support quality education.

The conference will also feature a special session on organizing to promote a federal constitutional right to education. This interactive session will focus on the potential benefits to the adequacy movement of supporting this endeavor.

This is also your last chance to book discount hotel rooms at the Jury’s Washington Inn (202-483-6000). There are only a few rooms left and the deadline to make reservations has been extended only to May 16, 2008. Specify that you are with the Quality Education Conference and make your reservation now!

The 2008 Quality Education Conference is co-convened by the National Access Network, Education Justice, and Education Voters. If you have any questions regarding the conference, please visit our ACCESS conference page or contact Marcela Briceno at 212-678-3028. We look forward to seeing you in June!
